MEMORIAL DAY 2015 ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸ðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸

Hug a Veteran. Thank a Veteran. Be proud to be an American that upholds the freedoms in our Constitution. Do not succumb nor follow blindly those that want to take away life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Don’t allow others to put you down for working hard.  You have the right to own your own business, to work in your chosen profession, to get an education.  Don’t put down what others negatively call big business. Those businesses create jobs. Think about it-the persons shaming wealth, power, big business—all have those things-but they don’t want you to-they want to control. Many people have died for this country in the name of freedom. They served this nation, giving all so that you could live your life your way. We were never meant to be a nation of hand-puts. Today, and every day, I give thanks to my uncles, cousins, aunts, friends, furiends, grandparents, everyone, especially my Daddy, for their service to this great country. Thank you all. Keep America free. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Adopt Don’t Shop -Dogs and Cats Rescued at Shelter!

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter, Canton, Georgia, had a very successful adoption event this past Saturday, December 6th. All dogs were adopted! Santa and all his helpers were there! There was a big turnout for breakfast with and photos with Santa. The staff and volunteers worked tirelessly. I am the dog pictured with Santa on the shelter’s announcement. Such an honor to be chosen. I know first-hand what a great shelter this is-I found my furever home there! Merry Christmas to all the rescued and adopted dogs and cats!

DOG DAILY DANGERS: FLEAS, MOSQUITOS AND HEARTWORM

The Weather in Georgia is finally warming up, so I don’t have to pack my sweater when I go to work. This would be all in good but warm weather brings worries to Mom about mosquitos-those biting annoying nasty creatures that like to give out gifts of heartworm. Mom is always torn, torn between giving me heartworm and flea preventive and the possible health dangers from the products, whether pill or topical. Notice I didn’t include flea collar because that is a big no-no with Mom. As I have posted to y’all before, Mom doesn’t like collars on dogs, only harnesses, and, never, never collars on us little guys. When I was rescued from the Shelter, I had been given a topical flea and heartworm (combined) product. Mom decided to stay with this same product as I never had any adverse reaction to it. And, it works as stated. Mom has asked me to urge my readers to regularly Google the type of flea/heartworm product you are using to see if there are any reports of problems with the medication, with the manufacturer, reports by the FDA, reports of problems by other users, and just to get general user feedback. Mom checks at least every 3 months, and always before getting a refill! When it is time for a refill of your flea or heartworm medication, ask your vet if they have received any negative reviews or warnings from the manufacturer. Google the name of the medication and the words “recall” “opinion” “reviews” “FDA” “adverse”. Mom gives me the heartworm medication because of my long ago brother that did get heartworms and had to undergo treatment. He survived! She did not want any other dog to experience this. So, Mom remains torn between possible unknown health issues from these medications and concern that without them, I could get heartworm. I live in the south, so we have longer warm seasons. Stay safe my friends. Enjoy summer, the outdoors, and the pool, but if the mosquitos are bad, go inside.

RAINBOW BRIDGE ANIPALS

I realize I have not blogged since before the Christmas holidays. That does not mean to say that I have abandoned WordPress.  I remain here, in the background, checking comments that my readers have so gratiously  taken the time to leave for me.  I so appreciate each and every response and suggestion, and compliments from y’all.  Your kind words turn a stressful day into a happy relaxation. And,  I am so honored and grateful for the ever increasing page views.  So many of my readers have such interesting and helpful blogs here on WordPress and on Blogger.  I have been educated on dog health, dog food, animal laws from many countries, animal rights organizations, human health and nutrition, history, travel, and so many other topics from Bloggers.

If you are on Twitter or Facebook, I also check my Twitter and Facebook pages daily.   I now have over 500 Twitter followers. I have met so many “anipals” on Twitter and enjoy meeting each and every one.  I don’t just click the “follow” button.  I will check you out, see what interests you, where you are from, and “talk” to you.    I am interested in each and every anipal and their human that follows me, and have enjoyed many a lively discussion with most.

Thanks to Blogger, WordPress, Twitter and Facebook, I now have friends and anipals from all over the world.  I am learning words from languages other than English with the assistance of Google and Bing Translate, or with Babelfish.  Do you know what BOL or MOL mean?  Why, Bark Out Loud and Meow Out Loud!

So if you Tweet, give me a shout out at:   Twitter.com/TuckTheLawDog.

Leave your comments here on WordPress or on Blogger. I will be blogging.

I enjoy all this social media and am grateful for everyone new friend I have met.

And to Archie (Facebook & Twitter) and Austin (Twitter) who have this January 2013, taken the  journey to the Rainbow Bridge, enjoy being healthy and able to run and play like puppies once again, my friends.

       Take care, y’all.

Texas Supreme Court to Rule on Dog’s Sentimental Value – ABC News

Texas Supreme Court to Rule on Dog’s Sentimental Value – ABC News.

I just read this ABC news story about a couple in Texas.  Their dog was euthenized in error by a dog shelter.  The Texas Supreme Court is now considering the issue of “sentimental value” and if it applies to a pet.  This is an interesting case to follow.

Take care, y’all.

My Anal (not annual) Dog Visit to the Veterinarian

I have been doing the “butt scootin boogie.”   So I went to my vet today.  Y’all may have experienced this once in a while.  Unfortunately small dogs like me tend to have “scootin” issues more frequently than big dogs, although my vet did tell me she met with a boxer earler today that also had a scootin problem.  For readers that don’t know for sure what I am talking about, “scootin” is a sign that dogs need to have their anal glands checked, and most likely expressed.  Long ago when dogs were wild, they ate a lot of bones,  raw meat and cartilage, which made their stools harder, and helped express these glands when they pooped.  Todays dogs for the most part have a more commercialized diet and thus softer stools.   Mom tried giving me more fiber in my diet-but that didn’t work  for me (darn!). Thus it is very important  for pet parents to keep an eye out for “scootin” signs.  Left unexpressed, these anal glands can become impacted and a more  serious medical procedure may be necessary.    It can be painful if these glands are left unexpressed for too long.  So keep an eye out, and if you see scootin, get to the vet or to a groomer that is experienced.  My Mom always takes me to our vet, because I have an internal expression done, not external, and a vet tech does this procedure.   At the same time, I have my nails checked.  So its a “two-in-one” visit, which I like as I usually have to be carried in as I refuse to walk in on my own.    Take care, and stay in good health my friends.
